It is said that once the mind expands it can never retract to its original size. My mind was rapidly expanded while training in the Special Operations community. Many of the lessons I learned or schools I attended resulted in permanent changes in habits and still affect the way I see the world today. From survival school and medical training as a SOCM medic, I gained a high level of competence in caring for myself and others in injury and illness. But without the same access to free medical supplies like I did in the military, I learned to improvise remedies with what I had easy access to. There's something extremely satisfactory to me about going into the woods, collecting pine needles, rose hips, etc and keeping them handy in case someone gets a cold or flu, or using honey on a cut to protect against infection and provide support to rapid healing instead of buying an anti-bacterial ointment or spray. Over the years, this just became second nature to me because it worked, and I enjoyed it.
